Social Support Group

The Social Support Group is funded by the Department of Health and provides social interaction for people over the age of 65 or 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in the community. A wide scope of activities includes physical and mental exercises to stimulate the body and help to maintain the cognitive functions of the brain, fun and games, music therapy, aromatherapy, outings and great functions for Melbourne Cup and Christmas days.

We offer transport door to door for people living in the Northern Beaches area and the area bordered by Aeroglen, Brinsmead, Freshwater and Redlynch. If your home is located outside these suburbs, you still can attend to our Centre, but transport will not be an option. Morning tea is offered on arrival and lunch can be arranged with a third party or brought from home.

People over 65 years of age who live independently in the community and would like to socialise in a friendly and safe environment. Clients need to be assessed by "My Aged Care" and nominated our service as a preference.

The service is open to the aged care group Mondays to Thursdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. A user fee applies to help with the running of the centre and bus.

Centre Based Respite

Centre Based Respite is funded by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.  It provides support to young people living with physical and intellectual disabilities, under the age of 65 years and their carers. Clients must reside at home and need social interaction with other people of their age group.  Activities are diverse, and all needs are accommodated.

Clients should bring their own morning tea and lunch according to their dietary needs. We celebrate some occasions during the year where a BBQ lunch is provided.

Referrals are received from Community Access Point, but a personal request can also be accepted and submitted on your behalf.

The service for the younger group operates on Fridays only, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. A user fee applies to help with the running of the centre and the bus.

Our Staff Commitment:

All our staff members are qualified in aged care and disabilities. They also refresh relevant qualifications, required for the job, on an annual basis.

Our purpose is to promote wellbeing and independence, allowing our clients to stay living at home for as long as possible. We respect clients' privacy and provide services for eligible clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. We also promote equal opportunities for everyone by protecting clients and staff from unfair discrimination. We are very proud of providing a service to the community honouring the "Centacare Way".
