Centacare FNQ is calling on the Cairns community to donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to send to Papua New Guinea which has been devastated by COVID-19.
More than 3000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Papua New Guinea so far but the numbers might be much higher as access to testing is very limited and very expensive. Port Moresby General Hospital is struggling to cope with the 200 plus, daily infections and many staff are getting sick. There is also a desperate shortage of PPE.
Centacare FNQ staff and trainees have been busy making masks to distribute and we are asking the local community to support our closest neighbour by donating hand sanitizer, hand wipes, gloves and face masks.
For anyone interested in making masks to donate for PNG, instructions shared by the Australian Government Department of Health on how to make a simple cloth mask can be downloaded as a pdf.

Donations can be dropped off at Centacare FNQ offices located at 22-34 Aplin Street or at 212 McCormack Street in Manunda.
