About Us

The Manoora Neighbourhood Centre, now managed by Centacare FNQ, is committed to serving the diverse community of Far North Queensland. In June 2023, Centacare FNQ partnered with the Red Cross to ensure a smooth transition and continued support for the Manoora community. This partnership, under a sub-contracting model, has been highly effective and well-received by the Manoora Advisory Group and Cairns Safer Streets.

Our guiding principle, "Making a Difference TOGETHER," embodies our collaborative approach. We believe in grassroots efforts that bring people together to create lasting impacts. This philosophy drives our mission to work not only for the community but also with the community.

Our centre prioritizes cultural awareness, competency, and safety, demonstrated through successful initiatives such as the "Our Place: We are Cairns West" project. This three-year community development endeavor, in partnership with the Department of Social Services, used a participatory action research approach to address community needs and build resilience. This project, along with other ongoing efforts like the Park Hub project and asset-based community development programs, showcases our dedication to fostering strong and resilient communities in Manoora, Mooroobool, and Kanimbla.

Centacare FNQ’s inclusive and cohesive approach is evident in our operations at the Manoora Neighbourhood Centre and the nearby Park Hub. Our diverse team, many of whom live locally and reflect the cultural demographics of the area, is dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals, and our services range from immediate crisis response and emergency relief to long-term mental health and wellbeing support.

Our volunteers, many of whom are retirees or professionals from the health and education sectors, play a crucial role in building community capacity. They assist with service navigation, support wellbeing-focused groups, and help organize various community events and activities.
